Overview

Ubiquiti UniFi networks the whole smart home stands on: wired, segmented, monitored.

What it is

A UniFi network is a home network built on Ubiquiti UniFi equipment: a gateway with a firewall, PoE switches and ceiling-mounted Wi-Fi access points managed from one console, with separate VLANs for family, guests, cameras and IoT, and the option to run UniFi Protect cameras and UniFi Access door readers on the same platform.

Most smart home problems are network problems. The cable company router in a closet at one end of a 6,000 square foot concrete home cannot reach the pool, and it certainly cannot handle 150 connected devices. We design networks the way an IT team would, on the Ubiquiti UniFi platform: a wired backbone to every room and access point, ceiling-mounted Wi-Fi 7 access points placed from a floor-plan heat map, PoE switches in a proper rack, and a UniFi gateway that keeps cameras, IoT and guests on their own segments.

UniFi also lets one platform run the cameras (UniFi Protect), the door and gate readers (UniFi Access) and the intercom, all managed from a single console we monitor remotely. Then we make it boring: UPS protection so a blip does not reboot the house, optional dual-ISP failover, and alerts that reach us before they reach you.

Why UniFi instead of a mesh kit from the store?

Mesh kits relay Wi-Fi over Wi-Fi and lose speed with every hop. UniFi access points are wired, managed from one console, and scale from a condo to an estate. The same platform runs your cameras and door access, which no consumer kit can do.

Why is my Wi-Fi bad in a Miami home?

Concrete block, impact glass and stucco over metal lath all absorb or reflect Wi-Fi. A single router in a closet has no chance. Multiple ceiling-mounted access points connected by wire, not mesh, solve it every time.

Do I still need the cable company router?

You need their modem or ONT, which we put into bridge mode. Routing, Wi-Fi and switching are handled by your UniFi equipment, which is faster, more secure and something we can support.
